By this point the owner, a peasant from a village south of Nagykőrös, had returned, and Zeleno gestured, suggesting that the horse was no doubt completely wild. As if on cue, the owner protested that his wife and daughter walked around the horse’s legs and fed her. He insisted on lifting the leg and then held it with ease in his arm to display how gently one could handle his foal. As he said, reverting to the seller’s habitual rhetoric, “This is all that really counts” (csak ez számít). Zeleno said that he knew this sort of horse, quipping “it keeps its kick for when you’re shoeing it.”
